Great Rusty Riley Original Art- Frank Godwin 5/28/55 2-panel Rusty On Horse:
FRANK GODWIN--RUSTY RILEY ORIGINAL ARTWORK.........................May 28, 1955...........................Fewer Godwin dailies are being offered these days, and this is not only one of the best I've ever seen, but it's been a gem of my collection for many years. This daily from the "Leapin' Leo" story might as well be a promotional ad for the feature. Depicted in this is rare two panel daily are everything you could want--Rusty on horseback, Patty, Colonel Bottomsly, Leapin' Leo and Madelyn. Beautiful piece--the art is full of detail and shows off beautiful Godwin dry brush rendering on the horse and a wonderful treatment of fabric of the Colonel's jacket. Outstanding example from the classic strip. Frank Godwin was an amazing artist...his work as a book illustrator in classics like Robin Hood, King Arthur and Robinson Crusoe are just as outstanding as his advertising paintings for Texaco, Coca Cola and other major clients. In addition to being a fine painter, he was one of the best pen and ink artists ever. And between all of his accomplishments at the easel and drawing board, he also served as President of the Society of Illustrators. Busy guy! These days, Frank Godwin is best remembered for two exceptional comic strips--Connie and Rusty Riley........Here's a chance to own an excellent example showcasing his skill and craftsmanship at the comics form. Other than a one line dialog pate up, there is no zip-a-tone, no staining or other defects (see scans). This a very clean example with excellent art and a board that's in fine
