Shipping: I have made the decision to go back to shipping using only flat rate Priority Mail. I used the less expensive shipping services for a while, but had numerous issues with late arrivals and damaged comics…even with sturdy cardboard backing. I understand this costs more money for both the buyer and me, as I have to pay a percentage on shipping costs, and I do not upcharge on shipping to make up the difference. Basically, I “eat” those fees on my end. All that being said, I understand you will take the shipping costs into consideration when offerding, which will sometimes result in a lower selling price on my items. I am willing to accept that as the safety of my products and their timely arrival to you, my customers, is of greater importance to me than making a couple extra bucks. I will combine on shipping whenever safely possible. Thank you for your understanding.
For what it’s worth, my thoughts on CGC and PGX. First, I do get many of my own personal books graded, both CGC and PGX, because I like to hang them on my walls to enjoy looking at them on a daily basis. That being said, do I think either of the grading companies are more experienced at grading comics books than I, or for that matter, many of you out there reading this right now?...No, I do not. Common sense will tell you that somebody who has gone through CGC or PGX’s three or six month, or whatever it is, training program, will not be as skilled at grading as those of us who have been doing it for 30, 40, or 50 years! Hello! As for one versus the other, I live in Oregon, so PGX is much more convenient, their prices are much better, and their turnaround times DESTROY CGC’s. Also, I have seen PGX get slammed by a lot of people, usually charging that they grade too liberally. Well, I did a very small sampling of comic books…four to be exact…that I sent to PGX first, then popped them out of the slab, did absolutely nothing to them, and sent them directly to CGC. The results are as follows: Tales From The Crypt #20 PGX 5.5 / CGC 5.0, Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories #31 PGX 7.5 / CGC 7.5, Four Color #9 PGX 4.0 / CGC 5.0 and Two Fisted Tales Annual #2 PGX 7.0 / CGC 8.5. So what does my “not so empirical study” tell you?...If anything, CGC are the more liberal graders. There you have it. I’ll climb off my soap box now. Best ‘o’ luck on your offerding and enjoy your collections, whatever they may consist of.
