Instructions for Use
Congratulations on purchasing the GRx Medical CD-29 or UC-7 Cardiology Stethoscope. Your stethoscope comes complete with 2 replacement diaphragms, a “bell sleeve” and 2 extra sets of eartips.
Using the 2 sided chestpiece: As this is a two-sided chestpiece, (Adult and Pediatric) you must “open” the side you wish to use. In order to do this, simply hold the stem of the chestpiece with one hand while
you rotate the chestpiece with your other hand. You will feel a “click” when the chestpiece has locked into place. The “dot” on the stem will line up with the open side of the stethoscope.
Removing a Diaphragm:
Hold the chestpiece with the diaphragm face up. Grip the sides of the diaphragm rim and
gently roll the rim off. If there is resistance, you may need to use more force to remove
one side first, which will then allow you to roll the rest of the rim and diaphragm off. It
is recommended that you use soapy water or rubbing alcohol to clean the rim before
reassembling your chestpiece.
Assembling the Diaphragm:
It is recommended that you apply a small amount of talcum powder to the inside
surface of your diaphragm. Be sure to “flick” the diaphragm to remove any excess powder.
Insert the replacement diaphragm into the rim. Be sure the logo is facing “outwards”.
Gently check to be sure the diaphragm is “engaged” in the groove by slowly rotating the
diaphragm a quarter turn. Pinch the edges of the diaphragm as needed. To attach the diaphragm/rim assembly, hold the chestpiece firmly, and insert the edge of the stainless steel chestpiece into a one edge
of the assembly. Hold the assembly in place with one thumb. From the original point of assembly, slowly use your thumbs to trace around the edge of the rim in opposite directions until the rim is
fully engaged. Inspect the assembled unit to check for uniformity. You may need to smooth the
edges of the rim by pulling on the rim slightly to allow the diaphragm to fully move into
Converting to Traditional Bell:
The smaller, pediatric side of the chestpiece can be converted to a traditional bell. Remove the diaphragm as explained in an earlier section of this pamphlet. Now simply slip the “bell sleeve” over the edge of the open bell and adjust as necessary with light pressure.
Your new stethoscope is designed to give you ultimate adjustability for your comfort and acoustic fit.
1. Select the correct size ear tips. Choose the size which best seals the off your outer ear
canal and feels most comfortable. As a rule the larger size is the best for most.
2. To adjust the angle of the binaurals hold the spring in one hand and rotate each binaural to
the correct angle.
3. Make sure that the binaural tubes are pointed slightly forward going into the ear canal.
4. To reduce spring tension, grasp each eartube at its bend (down by the spring) and gently pull outwards.
5. To increase spring tension, squeeze the eartubes together (down by the spring).
General Care and Maintenance:
To prolong the use of your stethoscope, avoid extreme heat, cold, oils or solvents. Stethoscopes are not autoclavable. Use soapy water or alcohol to wipe down your stethoscope, including the ear tips which are removable.
To disinfect, use 70% isopropyl alcohol solution. Do not submerse your stethoscope in any liquid or subject it to steam sterilization.
