Guido Cacciapuoti Large Italian Pottery Lady With Flowers, Vintage 1930's Italy For Sale
Vintage Guido Cacciapuoti
Vintage Guido Cacciapuoti
Outstanding large Italian pottery figure of a young woman holding a large shallow basket of flowers. This piece is signed on the lower back with the incised mark “G Cacciapuoti” as well as with “Made in Italy”. This mark dates from 193o-1953 (after the death of Guido’s brother Mario). The hollow pottery figure stands 12 ¼” (31.2 cm) tall, has a width of 11” (28 cm), and weighs just over 5 lbs. The lady’s gown is charcoal gray, shaded darker at the hem and blending gradually to a creamy white at her waist. She wears a single pink rose on the front of her pale blue bodice. The large tray holds four varieties of flowers, each blossom hand formed in clay and applied to the piece. Her features are masterfully painted to create a truly lovely face.
Condition: This vintage Italian pottery figure is in very good condition overall but does have several small flaws. The glaze has light crazing which isn’t present everywhere on the figure but can be seen here and there. There is an old repair on some of the leaves and flowers located in one small area on the front section of the basket (see detail photo). The glue used to re-attach the leaves has turned a brownish color over the years. We found no other repairs on this piece. One of the daisies on the front edge of the basket tray has lost all of its petals. There are several tiny chips and nicks on other flower petals and leaves. The rose that the woman wears on her bodice has two chips as well. There are five tiny glaze flakes on the lower folds of the skirt, as well as a very small nick located just below the Cacciapuoti signature. The base rim of this figure has five very minor shallow nicks. The tip of the lady’s nose has what looks to me like a tiny dot of paint on it, this is not a chip (see detail photo). This wonderful old piece will be well cushioned and double boxed for safe shipping.
