Up for sale is an authentice Gullah Sweetgrass Basket, made and signed byCarlene Habersham, from the Charleston,South Carolina area. This basket form, which is commonly referred to as a bread basket, is approxiamtely 13" long, 11" wide, and 3" tall. It is made out of sweetgrass, bulrush, pine needles, and palmetto leaves. This form of basketmaking was brought to the Charleston area by slaves who came from West Africa about 300 years ago. It is a traditional art form that has been passed on from generation to generation. I purchased this basket at an estate sale in Williamsburg, VA. It is in new condition, and it comes from a smoke free Environment.I have started the auciton at a low price, and there is on this basket.
