This basket measures approximately4-1/2 inches wide, 5-1/2 inches long, and1 to 2inches tall. Materials used are sweetgrass,pinestraws, and palmetto leaves.
Sweetgrass basketmaking has been part of the Charleston and Mt. Pleasant communities for more than 300 years. Brought to the area by slaves who came from West Africa, basketmaking is a traditional art form which has been passed on from generation to generation. Today it is one of the oldest art forms of African origin in the United States.
My baskets are originals made by me. No second hand or imitations. I offer free repairs on all baskets bought from me only. Howevever, if you follow the special care instructions, the basket can last a lifetime
