Gustav Becker German Antique Beehive Chime Mantle Clock, 1927, All Original For Sale
This is a fine example of the famous German clock maker Gustav Becker, who was known as one of the finest of his craft. Born in 1819, he began his clock shop in 1850. This is one of his Beehive Chime Clocks for the mantle, and bears the serial number 2885898 which dates it to about 1927 according to experts. In the back on the works we read :"Medaille D'Or" which relates to his having won the Gold Medal for his craftsmanship. Other inscriptions read: "Gustav Becker GB Freiburg in Schl". Also inscribed is "1061" on the part which holds the chimes, as well as "P 13" on the brass near the serial number. The mahagany case is in nice condition with only slight wear evident in a couple of places, including a small chip on the front, shown in one of the photos. The beveled glass on the door appears to be original with no chips or cracks. The face has not been cleaned by me and is a nice aged silver/gray. I used some lemon oil on the wood to clean it, but nothing to alter the original color. Even the key bears the inscription "Germany" and appears to be original. The pendulum is brass and appears to be original. Sign up for my email newsletters by adding my store to your Favorites
