Hallmarked Sterling Silver Hip Flask, 1919 For Sale

For sale here is a fine Sterling Silver Hip Flask, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1919. It is approximately 5” or 130mm high, 3 ¼” or 83mm wide and 1” or 26mm front to back, the capacity is 8 fluid ounces (UK measurement) and the weight on my postal scales is 138 grams. It has a hinged twist lock top, the hinge is nice and firm and the top closes neatly, the inner cork has been renewed and now gives a good seal making the flask watertight. Condition is very good for its age, it is very well polished and virtually scratch free at first glance it looks pretty much perfect however there are several minor dings and surface marks from use, nothing particularly noticeable, on one face there are a few shallow ‘bruises’ only visible looking across the surface, there are no bad dents and no splits and the flask has not been engraved. The hallmarks show; maker probably SGJ this is a little rubbed, Anchor for Birmingham Assay Office, Lion Passant for Sterling Silver and the date letter ‘u’ for 1919, the neck has the Lion (rubbed) and the ‘u’, the hinge has the Lion and inside the top the Lion and the ‘u’ though these cannot be seen with the cork in place.
