Hanhart 2 Pusher Chronograph Wwii Fleigerchronograph Calibre 41 Coined Mcqueen For Sale
HANHART
one of the two most famous
Luftwaffe watch producers in WWII. "HANHART" or "TUTIMA" are the
leaders in collectibillity and rarity and stand in a catagory of thier
own.
These 2 button watches rarely come on the market for sale. I have seen
several 1 button, but rarely the 2 in complete working original
condition.
if you are reading this ad, chances are you know this watch, and do not
need an exclimation...
This is the series 4 aka calibre 41 and has the ratating
coined bezel 2 button flyback. They say they date to early 1940's and
this one has one of the lowest production serial numbers i have seen,
which would make it a very early one. Everything on the watch
is functioning properly , the movement matches, and is in beautiful
condition. A service was done a few years back, and still functions
properly,Like all antique watches I would
suggest service, cleaning, adjustment.
Has very nice dial. the crystal is in great
condition considering. Has the typical nickel wear, but this watch is a
true survivior, and the patina is priceless....... Some luminesce
missing from hour hand. bottom pusher may not be original. band is very
old leather, and sewn onto the solid lugs of the case. crystal has
light scratches.
I have owned this watch for many years, and am thinning out my
collection. my loss, your gain. did not clean, or refurbish, left all
the history.
The greatest part of adding a watch of this caliber to ones collection,
is the watch is desired in many multiple markets, watch , german,
military, chronographs, history, and Mcqueen..

TALK
ON HANHART TIMEPIECES AROUND THE WEB.
The chronograph watch is an essential component of any fighter
pilot’s equipment - he relies on this timepiece for accurate,
dead-reckoning navigation, as well as a host of other related
time-keeping factors of importance. Hanhart was one of the leading
German producers of chronographs in the ‘30’s and
‘40’s and their examples were extensively used by
fighter pilots of the Luftwaffe; in fact, only one other chronograph
was employed with regularity by the Luftwaffe Jagdfliegern (fighter
pilots), this being the equally famous Glashütte Tutima.
Hanhart actually made two styles of chronographs with rotating bezels,
the other style having a simplified movement configured with only one
plunger button vs. the two buttons on this version.
The German Luftwaffe ruled the skies over Europe for four years.
History will forever recall the daring, record-holding achievements of
the Luftwaffe’s Jagdflieger Experten (experts), who amassed
kill records most likely never to be surpassed again. Precision was
paramount to these Experten, for in their line of work one small
mistake could easily be their last. Not surprisingly, the unquestioned
Experte of all time, Major Erich Hartmann, is, in fact, often seen
photographed wearing a Hanhart chronograph watch!Today, original
Luftwaffe chronograph wristwatches are valued antiques and the most
desired of all the military chronographs. These watches will fetch a
ransom price from any quarter, as the demand far exceeds the quantity
on the market. Such is the rarity of even having the opportunity to buy
one of these gems, that the price ticket is actually a secondary
concern to just being lucky enough to locate one for sale. Even if one
has the good fortune to obtain such a treasure, the evil dilemma to
wear or not wear this piece of history surely will face the purchaser.
Should the watch still retain its original riveted strap, the increased
chance of damage through use makes the dilemma even more cursed.
Steve
Mcqueen
There are two watches that
most men of a certain mold would associate with Steve McQueen: the
automatic Heuer Monaco with blue matte dial (reference 1133B) and the
Submariner reference 5512. But McQueen wore many other watches
throughout his life, including the Hanhart 417 (or 417ES) chronograph.
Hanhart is a German manufacturer that specialized in producing
chronographs for the German Air Force, including the Luftwaffe in World
War II through the West German Air Force in the 1950s.
McQueen wore one with a black dial throughout his life on a brown
leather fatstrap (and at least one pictures shows him wearing it on
what looks like a pigskin strap), including in the movie The War Lover,
which is a disambiguation anachronism since the movie was set during
World War II but the watch was first introduced after WWII. McQueen was
known to wear this watch often when he was riding his motorcycle.
It looks like McQueen's watch had writing on the lower half of the
dial, likely "SHOCKPROOF" and "ANTIMAGNETIC" like this one or less
likely "SHOCKPROOF" and "GERMANY" like this one. It is hard to say
whether McQueen had the 417 or 417ES, but my bet would be that he had
417ES given that they seemed more likely to have writing on the lower
half of the dial. It is just another sign that McQueen had great taste
not only in clothes, cars, and motorcycles, but also in watches.
