As popularity and demand of this newly discovered area of collecting increases, todays low prices are destined to seem like a tremendous bargain in the near future. For those familiar with current U.S. coin and currency prices, don't you wish you could go back 20 years and form a collection for investment purposes? The price increases have been phenomenal! When you think about how old these labels are, combined with the incredible artwork, the upside price increase potential is quite obvious.

Most of these labels were printed in the late 1800's and early 1900's. At the turn of the century, cigar smoking was all the rage. With many different brands to choose from, cigar makers would compete to make their boxes stand out and attract attention to their particular brand. This was accomplished with beautiful artwork and eye catching designs on the labels attached to the boxes. In 1889, embossing was introduced to the labels, adding a 3 dimensional appearance.

Most surviving cigar box labels are warehouse discoveries. They are remainders that never got attached to the boxes they were intended for. When a particular cigar company went out of business, often times the remaining labels were left behind in boxes, only to be discovered decades later.
