THIS IS TRULY AS HISTORICAL AS STAFF OF THE 125TH NEW YORK BY REBEL FIRE AT GETTYSBURG Flag staff was used to carry a swallowtail Guidon and used as a marker to assist in battlefield maneuvers to know where the line was This one was carried by the 125th New York Inf. at the battle of Gettysburg. The Flag staff was pierced by Rebel fire shattering the middle section of the staff as stated by the State of New York museum website (link below) where they have the original Guidon Flag thatwas attached to this Flag staff. They also have the original documentationsfrom the commander of the 125th stating the fate of the Guidon Flag at the battle of Gettysburg, alsoas stated by the Veterans of Reno post 4 Hagerstown, MD. GAR Hall;where a museum was set up at the GAR hall. A lot of GAR halls had museums within. Members and veterans would donate there war souvenirs to these GAR Halls. The staff has the originalmuseum tag (GAR Tag) embossed Hagerstown, MD. Reno Post NO. 4, and thetyped "125 New York Inf. Guidon Staff Broken By Rebel Fire at Gettysburg. Theone Flag Staff piece has stenciled on it"125th New York Inf. Gettysburg Battlefield" and the original brass bottom cap. The second Flag Staff piece has the two holes where the Flag was attached.
