H.l. Leonard 8 ½’ Bamboo Fly Rod Model 50 ½ Tournament:
H.L. LEONARD 8 ½’ BAMBOO FLY ROD MODEL 50 ½ TOURNAMENT
This is a pre-fire Leonard, probably a model 50 ½, although there is no hanging tag to verify the model number. Comes with original bag and tube. All segments exactly 34 ½” log with minor fishing sets in both tips. Agate stripper, English snakes, one agate tip-top and one Perfection. Marked on butt cap: “The Leonard Rod/HL Leonard Rod Co. /Maker” and “Tournament” on verso. Butternut spacer, ferrules with patent dates Sept. 3, 1878 and Oct. 26, 1875. Ferrules are 16/64” and 10/64” and tips are 4/64” below the tip-top wraps. Casting: This rod has tapers similar to a Model 50, but is 6” longer. It is very delicate and capable of protecting the finest tippet. Best with a 4wt line, I believe. Condition: Finish is original and showing some signs of age. Wraps are probably original, but possibly replaced with correct thread. Ferrule fit is good, all guides in place, cork is soiled but solid. One tip is a Leonard replacement, correct model and color of thread, but the wraps and guide spacing do not index with the original tip. Casts fine with either tip. If something is wrong with an item beyond any defects noted, you may return it for purchase price within 5 days. However, I cannot re-negotiate the price after the sale, or pay for repairs. Payment by PayPal, your VISA, or you can show up in Bend, Oregon, with the cash. In that event, I will buy the coffee. Buyer pays postage and insurance only, probably about $18 in the US, but check the calculator for your zip code, especially with the new larcenous postal rates. NFLCC/SIA/AMFF.
