This is for alarge Victorian medal with a fabulous detailed image of the interior of Holborn Restaurant. The London restaurant was founded in 1874, and was said to have held a unique position in London's social life, adding a 'spice of poetry to the dull prose of every day life'. The King's Hall could accommodate 500 diners and be cleared for dancing in 20 minutes. The Venetian Hall, with tables joined in a circuit around the room, was 'the home of Golf, Hockey and Tennis Clubs holding Annual Reunions'.The medal shows in great detail the opulent entrance along with the guests and it was presented by the proprietors to a HW Standenin December 4th 1896. It is inexcellent condition with a lovely rich patina to themetal andonly verylight wear. Itmeasures 68mm (2.75") in diameter by 11mm(0.5") deep.
