Here is c1960 (1955-1965) authentic and well made HOPI DIORAMA of THREE RATTLESNAKE DANCER KACHINASwhich is in excellent condition for age - see pics! These Kachinas / Kachinum were made by an expert Hopi maker - A David.
These are fine looking Kachinas, with a quality paint job and expert carving. They are made from solid Cottonwood Tree Wood, the tallest being 8 1/2" tall, and about 3 1/2" wide at shoulders. The base of Diorama is 12" X 7". There is some very minor wear as expected from age/use(expected wear/paint/feather loss) - yet in ExcellentConditionoverall (no cracks or breaks / no notable damage or wear). These Kachinas display very well with a lot of action as you can see from the pics. Note the fine poses, expert carving, and 60's era paint job and accoutrements - all original. It is rare to see a Snake Dance in action as this Hopi Diorama depicts- this dance can only be observed by Hopi People now, since about 1985 no Bahanas (white people and non-Hopi) have been allowed to watch it.
The Kachinas are spirits who live in the San Francisco Peaks (an "extinct" volcano) near Flagstaff, Arizona, they come down at certain times of the year to interact in their various forms with the Hopi People on the three ancient Mesa Pueblos. You can visit the Hopi Mesas to see them dance in their human form, there is even a hotel there now - see the Hopi This is an older Hopi Kachina Diorama with 3 rare and collectible Snake Dancers. style="font-weight: normal; ">Each doll is carved from a single piece of the traditional Cottonwood - a tree that grows in washes and canyons where water is more carved and painted by a master Hopi Kachina carver/maker "A.
