THIS QUITE LARGE PIECE WASA COCK BECK RIVER FIND, NEARTHE TOWTON BATTLEFIELD IN THE 1970'S BY A CLOSE COLLEAGUE OF MINE WHO LIVES NEARBY IN YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND. THE BATTLE OF TOWTON TOOK PLACE ON MARCH 29, 1461 AS PART OF THE WAR OF THE ROSES. THIS WAR WAS FOUGHT BETWEEN THE HOUSE OF YORK AND THE HOUSE OF LANCASTER AND WAS THE LARGEST AND BLOODIEST BATTLE EVER FOUGHT ON ENGLISH SOIL. OUT OF THE APPROXIMATELY 50,000 SOLDIERS WHO FOUGHT THAT DAY, 28,000 DIED ON THE BATTLEFIELD !!!
