Huge Impressive 19c Chinese Deeply Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Vase W Fitted Stand:
For sale we have here a large and impressive Chinese deeply carved cinnabar lacquer vase measuring slightly over 14" and over 15" including the fitted hardwood stand. This amazing vase was produced in Canton, China during the 'Old China Trade' and was most likely exported to the West sometime around the c1850s. This vase is in the style that is designed to set into a stand and does not use the traditional stand that would include a collar and top as the bottom of the vase has a stepped in extended ring below the foot rim. The carving is executed in very deep relief with most likely 350 to 400 individual hand applied coats and would have taken well over a year to complete with each coat taking a full day to dry before another is applied and then because of the sheer size the actual carving would have taken a longer than normal time especially with the fabulous details and individual scenes and areas of figural subject matter with playing the game of go and Scholars looking at a written scroll and much more. The color is of a deep red and shows good honest age and condition is excellent with only a couple of tiny chips to a few leaf tips but no other losses, cracks or repairs only expected wear to the bottom extended ring from displaying and moving about. Sizes: Height of Vase to just the bottom foot ring 14" x Height including stand 15-1/4" x Diameter 9". If you collect Chinese cinnabar or vases then this is a absolute must so offer with confidence and good luck to all.
