Half Hull America\'s Cup Genesta 1885 Model Yacht 24\"

America\'s Cup Genesta 1885 Half Hull Wooden Model Yacht 24\"

This expert level, highly detailed, museum quality, Genesta 1885 model is brand new, fully assembled and ready for display (not a kit).

This America\'s Cup half hull model was crafted in mahogany and tropical hard woods by the traditional plank on bulkhead method. After the bulkheads are laid and the hull lines trued, the hull is planked with individual wooden strips to form a smooth silhouette.

The Genesta 1885 model is then sanded, hand painted with light varnished topsides, mahogany varnished bottom paint. The half hull is then mounted on a ready to hang wooden plaque, with an engraved brass nameplate. The half hull model is built exactly to scale as the original Genesta was. The task required skillful craftsmen hundreds of hours to accomplish.

The cutter Genesta was the unsuccessful English challenger in the fifth America\'s Cup in 1885 against the American defender Puritan.

The Genesta a composite construction cutter (oak planking on a steel frame) was designed by John Beavor-Webb and built by Dan Hatchen Henderson & Company of Scotland in 1884, for owner Sir Richard Sutton of the Royal Yacht Squadron, England.

A good racing man, Beavor-Webb steered Genesta with Captain John Carter. His performance in the second race against Puritan was to be for a long time engraved in the memory of the yachtsmen who witnessed the race.

After the Cup races, Sutton and Genesta won the Brenton Reef Cup, the Cape May Challenge Cup, and, upon returning to Britain, the first Round Britain Race in 1887. She was sold and converted to a yawl by the 1890s, and was finally broken up in 1900.

The half hull model plaque measures 29.5\"(75cm) x 7.8\"(20cm) and the model measures 23.6\"(60cm) long from bow to stern. It\'s an historic half hull model sailboat that is sure to become a treasured family heirloom.
