Half Hull Wood Model Of New Jersey Relief Light Ship Wal-505, 11x17 Inches:
Up for sale to U.S. customers onlyis a nice half hull model of the the New Jersey Relief light ship WAL-505. Light ships acted much the same as lighthouses, guiding ships into dangerous channels. This one, built in 1904 in Camden NJ, was 129 feet long. It was struck by a freighter in 1960 as it was anchored in Ambrose Channel used by oceangoing vessels to enter New York harbor, 10 miles east of Sandy Hook, NJ. It sank in 10 minutes but with no loss of life. Today it is a site for divers to explore. At some point somebody made this small half hull, waterline model with a fair amount of detail (look closely and you'll see the rope lines hand drawn in pencil on the wood). Picked it up a flea market and the seller had no history on the maker. There are probably some missing pieces -- Flags fore and aft, some roofs, for example -- but it is still a cool piece for display.
I don't know anything else aboutthis itemso please ask questions. Thanks for looking and please check out my other sales.
NOTE: I have foundthat the shipping calculator is not always reliable so please use the shipping cost as a guide only. Do not pay for the item until I send you an invoice with correct shipping cost. Sorry, but I have ended up losing money on shipping charges. I also reduce shipping cost if I can find a cheaper shipper.
I try very hard to satisfy all my customers, and I think my response shows it. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, please email me with questions before the sale ends. Some buyers have requested refunds because they thought they were getting something other than what was described and pictured. I'll answer all questions and even send extra pictures, but if you don't ask in advance then you can't expect me to give you a refund because you made some assumptions about the item. I'm not an expert on most of the things I sell, nor a mind reader, so I'd like to clear up questions as much as you would.
