Halloween themed HAUNTS all around our 1/4 acre lot in Newport Beach, CA. We got really serious about it in 2001, and we started to do it as a Fund Raiser for various charities, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and the local public elementary school. Over the past 12 years we raised over $100,000 for charitable causes. The themes varied from Pirates of the Caribbean, Swamp Creatures, Haunted Circus, Phantom of the Opera, Bonita Canyon Bog... this last year it was The Fear Factory. We would spend between $3K and $6K per year on new stuff... to add to our Halloween collection. We built much of it ourselves, (monsters, props) and bought other peoples stuff, too. We typically had: one Adults Only Party (for 200-300) NO KIDS ALLOWED (due to the flowing alcohol and some pretty outrageous costumes) with a Rock n Roll band, food, bars and tenders (no costume- no entrance). One Kids Only Party for our children (7 of them) for 150-200 kids, with a DJ. One or two large fund raising nights open to the community on a Sunday evening before Halloween (we would have between 500 and 900 guests). And of course Halloween Night (for another 600 - 1,000 guests). We Expanded our Family endeavor with input and muscle from 'HalloweenProHaunt', We had requests to do it other nights, and at one point thought about doing it as a commercial venture. On our Fund Raising night(s) we charged an admission price (between $20 and $30). We brought in a food truck or two (In N Out Burger, Polly's Pies and TK Burger), portable restrooms, carnival games, etc. We had bands playing music, alternating on a raised stage we built (usually 3 kids bands and a popular local adult band). We lit up the street with overhead lights and everyone partied. Early in the evening we would allow the younger kids to go through the mazes and haunted house... before we had "actors" inside. At dark we would close it down for about 15 minutes, and get our "actors" in place. Typically our "actors" were friends and family, neighborhood older kids (age 13 on up), and adults who liked to work the event. We also offered Community Service Hours to the High School aged kids, who need 40 hours of Community Service to graduate from high school. These same kids also helped with set up and tear down. NOW, after almost two decades we are going to close it all down, and let someone else take our stuff to make their own haunts. The props and equipmentare all stored in a storage unit ... in Riverside, CA. It will all fit into about a 30' foot Penske or Ryder Moving Truck... barely. There is a lot of stuff. This is pretty much all anyone would need to have their own neighborhood... or even commercial haunt. Although they will undoubtedly do like we did and always add more new stuff, or, modify and alter what we already have, based upon any new themes. SET UP TIME: from start to finishtypically took about 2 weeks to get everything set up prior to the parties. Never really clocked it, but if we had to guess on how many hours it took to set up... let's say 120 man/woman hours of weekends, and evenings. It is fun, especially if you have 4 or 5 friends, family and neighbors who are interested in doing it together, along with the youngsters. We would have set "work times" when we'd have helpers come (mostly weeknight evenings, and weekend days for a block of 2 to 4 hours). Tear down can occur in one long day (with 3-4 people). By the day after Halloween, we were always ready to have it all go back to rest in storage... for the next 11 months.

TOTAL THIS LIST IS INTENDED TO GENERALLY OUTLINE WHAT WE HAVE INCLUDED. IT IS INTENDED TO BE, BUT MAY NOT BE, 100% ACCURATE. THERE MAY BE MORE OR LESS THAN IS LISTED. WE WOULD GENERALLY USE ABOUT 70% OF WHAT WE HAVE EACH YEAR, TO KEEP IT FRESH. THE PICTURES REALLY TELL THE STORY BETTER. WHEN YOU START LOADING/UNLOADING YOU WILL BE SURPRISED. YOU WILL NEED A STORAGE SPACE TO PUT EVERYTHING, WHETHER A GARAGE, A BARN, OR A STORAGE UNIT. RIGHT NOW IT ALL FITS, (BY PACKING IT TIGHTLY) AND CAREFULLY INTO A STORAGE SPACE THAT IS APPROXIMATELY 30' x 10' x 10'. PLUS, EVERY YEAR, WHEN REMOVING AND STORING, SOME THINGS GET BROKEN, ARMS BECOME DISCONNECTED, WIRES FALL OUT, SHOES FALL OFF THE FEET, THINGS GET BENT, HANDS FALL OFF, ETC., ETC. THERE IS ALWAYS SOME WORK TO RESTORE THESE PROPS. JUST PLAN ON IT. TO SOME EXTENT THE OLDER AND MORE WEATHERED THINGS LOOK... THE BETTER... FOR A SCARY HAUNT!
