Hand Painted Signed Royal Worcester Robin Thimble
English * by William Powell * Circa 1937
This beautiful vintage Royal Worcester porcelain thimble is a nice example of one of the hand painted thimbles signed by William Powell. Inside is the puce Royal Worcester mark with 5 dots indicating it was made in 1937. The little English robin is well done and colorful and there is hand painted gilding around the top and bottom.
It's about an American size 9/10. The top gold band has a tiny nick and the bottom rim has a shallow surface chip (under the P in Powell). You have to search to find these flaws and the condition is otherwise excellent. It has a high gloss glaze inside and out with a matte finish on the top. Some of Powell's thimbles are shown on p. 105 of the Story of the Thimble by Bridget McConnel.
