Excellent Preowned condition.
Chelson actually is the New Chelsea Pottery Company. They were in business on Chelson St, which is where that trade name comes from. The New Chelsea company was founded by R. H. & S. L. Plant in about 1900 and traded as Plant Bros until about 1912 when the ‘New Chelsea’ name was adopted. They sold to Susie Cooper in 1951.
The RD number on the back dates the plate to about 1913/1914. Based on the size it should be a salad plate. The number is red is your pattern. Chelson made quite a few patterns for Harrods. Very few had actually had names.
