Harvey Era Sterling Native American Navajo Turquoise & Thunderbird Cuff Bracelet:
$200.00

Please read the entire listing.
This sale is for a spectacular old sterling Native American Navajo cuff bracelet that has been in my family probably since it was made. It is a classic early design of cuff bracelets with an old turquoise in the center, wide twisted wire bands forming the bracelet and small thunderbirds on each side of the bracelet. This style of bracelet is associated with the Fred Harvey era although it is heavier and more substantial than most of them I\'ve seen. It was purchased as new or almost new by my grandfather in Las Cruces, NM probably around 1910.
The bracelet has an old green turqouise with a lot of brown matrix and shows the natural features of the stone. It must be a turquoise mined from one of the wonderful old southwestern mines that are long depleted of turqouise. The setting is surrounded by twisted wire on oval-shaped sterling with lovely hand stamps like rays of the sun.
The bracelet is formed by 3 bands of twisted silver joined at each end with a piece of silver over them and lovely small hand made decorations. These bands flare out and are wider at the center where the center design is applied. There is a traditional silver thunderbird on each side of the cuff near the center. Just above the thunderbirds there is a small piece of sterling that crosses the 3 twisted wires. There are arrows and tiny beads on this decorative accent of sterling. The bracelet has probably never been polished (definitely not by me). It has a wonderful and rich, even dark patina.
There is no damage to the bracelet and no repairs. There are no cracks or chips in the turquoise. The bracelet is unsigned as was common in those early days. The bracelet tested as 95% sterling silver on a GXL Next electronic tester.
Please note - the turquoise is slightly loose in the setting if you touch the stone just right. If you press lightly on one end of the turquoise, the stone will move up and just above the setting on the opposite end. If you press lightly on the end that moves up, the turquoise will not move. It was this way when my father gave the bracelet to me.
I took the bracelet to a jeweler years ago and he suggested that the silver setting around the stone could be tightened. But I decided not to have anything done since I only used the bracelet for display. And the turquoise has remained in the setting although it has not been worn. The bracelet has been worn infrequently since it was purchased by my grandfather. It is in stunning condition aside from the turquoise that is slightly loose and may have been loose all of this time.
I would not wear the bracelet without having a jeweler or Native American artisan decide how best to secure the turquoise. Handling the bracelet gently and having the bracelet on display should not be a problem. I have adjusted my asking price on the bracelet to allow approximately $80-100 for a jeweler to secure the stone.

This bracelet is absolutely gorgeous with wonderful silverwork and a fabulous center turquoise. It is in excellent pre-owned condition aside for the slightly loose stone.
