Victorian sterling silver Blackberry pattern thimble consisting of chased blackberry leaves and fruit on a textured background. Made by Henry Griffith & Sons of 131 Warstone Lane, Birmingham, their address in 1901.
Clear hallmarks on the plain flat rim: 17 (the size), HG&S LTD (the mark used from 1898 until 1912), the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark, the lion passant for sterling silver and the date letter lower case "b" for 1901. In excellent condition. Just very slightly off round but free of holes, dents, damage and repairs. Height approx. 2.6 cm; internal base diameter 1.7 cm; weight 6.1 grams.
Comes complete with jeweller's shaped brown leather thimble case with brass hinge and gilded metal hook and eye catch. Lined with dark blue velvet and white silk on which are printed the retailing jeweller's details: FREDK. JOHNSON · Goldsmith & Diamond Merchant · ALTRINCHAM (Manchester).
