Handsomely engraved in black and white, the stock features multiple antique fonts, typical of certificates issued in the late 1880's.
It was issued in New York and countersigned by Officers of the Boston Safe Deposit Co. and the American Loan and Trust Co. in Boston. It bears the hand signatures of both the President and Treasurer of the company, whose history appears below.

The Mexican Telephone Company started service in Mexico in 1882. The Mexican Telephone Company operated in Guadalajara, Puebla, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Mérida, Progreso, Guanajuato, León, Querétaro, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí, Monterrey and Saltillo. A corporation formed under the laws of New York in 1882. The company operated under the Bell telephone patents and concessions from the government of Mexico in the Republic of Mexico. It had exchanges in seventeen cities and towns of that country. In 1905 the Mexican Telephone Company was sold to Boston Telephone Company, as part of the restructuring process of the nearly broke American Telephone and Telegraph. The branch was renamed Mexican Telephone and Telegraph Company. In 1908, the Mexican Telephone and Telegraph Company owned branches in Guadalajara, León, Monterrey, Mérida, Progreso, Querétaro, Saltillo, San Luis Potosí, Tampico and Veracruz. The stocks offered above come from the first incarnation of the company prior to its sale to Boston Telephone & Telegraph!!
