Offering this early dark blue Staffordshire handleless cup or bowl . It measures 3 5/8\" across the top opening and stands approximately 2 1/4\" high. This piece has a sweet pattern of a small bird, possibly a Sparrow, perched on the edge of a nest filled with eggs. The bird\'s head is turned upward, eyeing a butterfly or moth flying overhead. The bottom is stamped \"Stone China\". This mark was used by many of the early Staffordshire potteries, such as Ridgway and Clews. The cup dates to about 1825. This piece displays well but has some glaze loss on the top rim as well as two chips on the base (see last 3 photos). I noticed a tiny area of crazing on the exterior area of the base. It is extremely difficult to see but worth noting for accuracy. There are no signs of any repairs. I have another piece from this pattern listed and multiple purchases can be combined for shipping.
