Hobart Town Courier Entire Saturday June 7 1828 Issue Two Pence Tax Stamp H/s:
TASMANIA' THE HOBART TOWN COURIER ' newspaper in its entirety for ' SATURDAY, JUNE 7, 1829 ' with manuscript 'N. Lorsk' in top left corner and bearing the 'TWO PENCE' hand-stamped tax stamp imprint in dark orange. Front page 280mm x 435mm - see scans.
This tax duty stamp is of all the Australian Colonies, the first duty stamp implemented and was used in Tasmania between 1827-1829!
Further, this very early colonial newspaper is a most important and complete historical document of early Australiana ........ particularly in its
complete newspaper form (4 pages) and makes for fascinating reading of life over 180 years ago!
The newspaper is addressed in the corner to a police officer named 'N Lorsk', no doubt guarding the convicts.
This is undoubtedly a unique opportunity to secure an important early piece of Australia's postal and social history -
an important historical document in its own right. An Exhibition / Museum quality item and a gem in any collection.
VERY RARE - IT'S THE FIRST I HAVE EVER SEEN IN 40 YEARS!
