Holocaust Survivor And Victims German Poetry Before The Holocaust- Rare Account For Sale
This is a very rare acquisition and one that came to me
while conducting investigative interviews with Holocaust survivors for my book,
The 10,000 Children That Hitler Missed by Lori Greschler. This album is NOT a copy and is a one-of-a-kind historical album.
This autograph book belonged
to Gerda Rosenberg, who escaped the persecution of the Nazi’s in 1938 when she
fled Germany. (album is written in German) As a Jewish young girl during Hitler’s
reign the chances of her survival were slim but today we hold in our hands the
remnants of her life and the lives of the children and victims. (resource:
Gerda Rosenberg is listed as a Jewish evacuee with the central state archives
of the Republic of Uzbekistan of Tashken).
Her autograph book (also known as a Poesie album) reflects
the names and poetry of some of the children who were murdered during the
Holocaust. Their poems (30 intotal) are the only legacy we have left of them.
Seven decades since the atrocities of the Holocaust; we can now reflect upon
and wonder what contributions these victims could have attributed to the world
at large. We have their thoughts and names in this album but sadly those are
their only remains.
The album is dated 1919 to 1923. I have researched a handful
of the children from the book and some of their fate is outlined below. (All
poetry is written in German and I have not had the poems translated). This
deserves to be researched, analyzed and preserved.
Here are a few examples of the research I have acquired:
Ruth Riekertisen (murdered at the age of 23 in 1942) She was
born in 1922 to Paul and Regina. The following relatives were murdered in
Auschwitz: Ernst Goldstein, Isidor and Emma Kirschbaum.
Ruth’s poem dated November 28, 1920 in Berlin (poem written
in German)
Ilselotte Laserstein, born in 1907. Deported to Auschwitz on
7/12/1943 and killed. Her family Inge born in 1929 was killed in Bergen Belson.
Walter Roza born in 1888 (grocer) killed in Bergen Belson.
Hans Freudlich- Hans
Freundlich was born in Torun, Poland in 1906 to Raphael and Tova. He was an
electrical engineer and married to Lucia. Prior to WWII he lived in
Halberstadt, Germany. During the war he was in Paris, France. Hans was murdered
in the Shoah at the age of 35.
This is a small
sampling of their fate.
Condition: the
album is frail, binding is broken, pages are loose and yellowed. This is to be
expected for it’s age.
