Huge Antique Islamic/Turkish Water Ewer/Jug, Late 19thC.
Huge 19thC Islamic/Turkish Green Glazed Pottery Ewer/Water Jug
This beautiful and very large late nineteenth century jug originates from Turkey (at the time, the Ottoman Empire), and dates to around 1880. It bears a very fine green glazed to the ribbed body, and a thick strap handle.
Standing 15” (38cm) high (it is pictured with a £1 coin), it has an elegant and capacious shape, and is in very good condition with only minor chipping and losses to the glaze. There is also very little crazing, and this is clearly a high quality example of 19th century Islamic ceramics. It’s large size means it can easily take pride of place in any collection or display of Islamic antiques and ceramics.

I have collected glass and ceramics, antiques and antiquities for many years, and my shop philosophy is to sell very good antiques at very low prices very quickly so I do not need to carry much stock; larger shops will charge much more, but take much longer than I do to make a sale. Each to their own, then - but that makes my prices ultra-low compared to a bricks-and-mortar antiques shop.
I try to describe everything I sell as honestly as possible, including any damage, issues, or attributions to a maker, in my descriptions. If you have any questions, a problem with a piece you’ve bought, or even further info on a piece I’m selling (always welcome!) please mail me. Please don’t ever leave negative or neutral response without speaking to me – we can always come to a solution.
