Large Rookwood Porcelain VaseDescription and Item Information
Up for sale is this vintage, artist-decorated Rookwood vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This porcelain vase has a yellow background with naturalistic decoration in jewel tone colors. It is a large piece, at approximately 14 5/8 inches tall; it has a diameter of about 9 1/2 inches. Unpacked, it weighs about 7 1/2 pounds. It would be a beautiful addition to a collection of American art pottery.Identification
Affixed to the base is a taped-on label which says, \"THE GLOVER COLLECTION 1613 Cincinnati Art Galleries.\" The vase is marked beneath with the Rookwood RP monogram and flame point mark and \"XXIII\" which indicates a date of 1923. The shape number is \"2246\" with size mark \"C.\" There is an artist\'s mark of \"E.T.H.\" for Edward T. Hurley. The base also has a wheel cut X mark with an additional horizontal line so that it looks more like an asterisk. According the the Cincinnati Art Galleries catalog for the June 1991 sale of the David W. and Katherine M. Glover Collection, this mark was used on \"give away\" pieces; such pieces were given to visitors or raffled to employees at company sponsored parties.Condition
The vase displays well, with light wear and no cracks or repairs. I found a few fine, unstained craze lines to the lower exterior, but these are only visible upon close inspection; the vase is uncrazed with the exception of these few craze lines. To the sides of the base are two glaze-only flakes (about 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch (indicated with an arrow in the photo) and 1/8 inch by 1/8 inch, respectively); there also is minor glaze roughness to this basal edge, probably from factory grinding. As made, to the lower neck of the vase, there is a 1/4 inch diameter round glaze bubble pop. To the exterior and interior of the vase, there are bumpy glaze bubbles (or textured clay bumps), as made. Before merchandise is shipped to a California address (or picked up or delivered within California), a sales tax of 8% will be collected, unless the buyer provides a valid California resale certificate form by mail (or in person, in the case of pick up or delivery). The resale certificate must be properly filled out in accordance with California Board of Equalization regulations. No exceptions. 2. Payments
The buyer must prepay before merchandise is released. Paypal payments over $250 will only be accepted if delivery is to an address with a confirmed status. A signature will be required for delivery if the total Paypal payment for merchandise inside the parcel is greater than $250. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. 3. Shipping and Handling
Good packaging is included; double-boxing is not included. Framed art will not be shipped unframed. The seller typically ships on Mondays and Thursdays, unless a holiday or special circumstance precludes it. If payment is via Paypal, the merchandise will be shipped on the seller\'s next shipping day after payment clears. The seller is not responsible for the transit time once the merchandise has been accepted by the shipping carrier. Economy shipping within the U.S. includes delivery to a physical address via an economy shipping method of the seller\'s choice. At the discretion of the seller, a faster shipping method may be utilized at no additional cost to the buyer. If the buyer prefers a different shipping method other than that chosen by the seller, or if delivery is to a post office box, additional shipping and handling costs may be required. In the above instances, the seller is happy to provide shipping quotes upon request. If international shipping is available, this will be indicated on the "Shipping and Payments" tab. International shipping is not free for the buyer; shipping costs are not negotiable. Shipping quotes must be requested prior to all international offerding or buying.
