Id'd Ohio Civil War Soldier Sam York Tintype 1/4 Plate Original Case W/document For SaleThis listing is for an original Civil War tintype photo in its original case. Underneath the image I found a piece of paper with a hand written note stating, "Taken in Camp Dennison Ohio Jan 13th 1862 Sam York". Online Records indicate that Samuel York was a member of the 15thIndependentBattery Ohio Light Artillery and that he joined as a Private and was Discharged as a Corporal. Additionally there is a small newspaper clipping makingreferenceto a general Blair and what appear to be battles or engagements. I don't know if it's relevant to the photo but it came with it so you're getting it also. The image shows a fairly young soldier in full uniform and holding a sword in one hand and the scabbard in the other hand. His pants are tinted light blue, the buttons are gold as is the belt buckle. The chevrons and piping are in red. The image has some marks on it, possibly made during the developing process but they should be visible in the scan. The case is separated along the paper hinge and the inner velvet has punctures and tears. Both closure hooks and eyes are present. The cover is embossed paper with a floral design. The metal foil surround is in pretty good shape. Parcel Post shipping is free to the continental US only. NO international shipping on this item. Other forms of shipping and/or insurance are at the expense of the buyer. I'm a pretty reasonable guy, if you have questions please ask.
