Thislisting is fora large and impressive dated 1897 French gilt bronze gryphon and green onyx presentation statue. The statue as whole measures 17 ¾ inches or 45 cm high, 14 ¼ inches or 36 cm wide at the base, and is 8 ½ inches or 21.5 cm deep.

The presentation statue features a large and substantial stepped variegated green onyx base. At the top of the base is a full figure of a gryphon. He sits at the top of the plinth with his head held high and his wings back behind him. The bronze figure has excellent attention to detail in the texture of the wings and throughout the whole figure. At the front of the plinth is a plaque in the form of a shield with a banner and laurel branch. The plaque reads “HIGH LIFE JEUNEHOMME & RAMBLOT PROPRIETAIRES - A. MONY GERANT - AVG. WASER ARCHITECTE - E. ROLAND SCULPTEUER”, the date “MDCCXCVII” which dates the piece to 1897, below this the Latin phrase “AS PERPETUAM REI MEMORIAM” which loosely translates to “IN PERPETUAL MEMORY”, and at the bottom of the plaque it is signed “L. COUPPE FAB.T”. The bronze and plaque have their original gilt gold patina or color, which is all original to the piece.

The condition overall is very good. There are age appropriate variations to the patina. The onyx base has an old repair to the front left corner, along with few minor fleabites on the corners and edges. Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine piece.
