This sale is for an absolutely stunning piece of Chinese export porcelain dating to the late 18th century, Qianlong period. The bowl is as finely painted as any piece of 18th century export that we have sold. On each side of the bowl is a detailed hunt scene depicting Westerners on horseback with dozens of dogs following them. In on the scenes the dogs chased what appears to be a fox up in a tree. On the sides of the bowl are beautiful smaller reserves of birds under a blue sky perched on and around small trees. The trim of the bowl is an intricate pattern painted in iron red, grisaille, and gilt. The interior of the bowl has a beautiful and colorful border around the rim and another detailed scene of a figure and dogs in the center. The quality of the work and vibrant colors are as good as you will find. There is almost no wear to any of the enamels and gilt. Simply stunning. The bowl measures 10.25 inches (26cm) across. The condition of the bowl is close to as good as you will find. There are no chips, there are no cracks or hairlines, and the bowl rings like a bell when you tap it. The only flaw we could find was one small chip on the rim that was professionally restored. It is difficult to notice and does not take away at all from this masterpiece. Just a wonderful and rare piece of Chinese porcelain dating to the 18th century.
