This is an interesting majolica lidded game dish with the hanging birds, rabbits and central rabbit to lid & other decoration ofwhich:

During our research we have been informed it certainly dates from the victorian period of the mid 19th century.

Dates c1860s.

Of an english game dish with:

the majolica brown colouring.

Decoration of the hanging birds with grapes & vine leaves around the circumference.

To the lid: decoration of game birds & rabbits with:

centrally the rabbit on a leaf used as a handle.

Pie crust decoration to the base & top edge.

It has an overall height of about 4.5inches.

It has an overall max dia of about 7.75inches.

Dia of lid of about 6.75inches.

Condition: Considering the age, the overall condition of the baser is subject to a crack to one side, across the centre and to the beginning of the other side of which:

with todays modern and advanced restoration techniques, can certainly be improved.

The lid is subject to minor nibbles to the edge with a short hairline from the base edge, which can be viewed from underneath.

Besides being a very collectable, heavy, mid 19th century majolica lidded game dish with the the hanging birds, rabbits to lid with the central rabbit handle to the lid, with its wonderful colouring & decoration, c1860s, would also look fabulous displayed.
