This striking "IKE" lapel pin has been in the owner's collection for over 50 years. (APIC Member value this item because of the asymmetrical lettering of IKE -- Dwight Eisenhower's nickname -- and for a style that is a precursor of the style used in campaigns over a decade later.
This is also a most unusual item -- a classy lapel pin that could be easily worn on a suit or other business attire by men and women.
The IKE lapel pin is from the first Eisenhower campaign in Eisenhower was elected by a landslide in November 1952. The five star general and hero of World War II as Supreme Allied Commander defeated Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson. It was the first GOP Presidential victory in 20 years. Additionally, Eisenhower and his running mate, Senator Richard Nixon of California, easily were re-elected in 1956 and served a full two-terms.
