A fourth generation goldsmith, Ilias lalaounis is world-renowned for his luxurious designs that incorporate elements of the ancient history of his forbearers. This centerpiece of this brooch is a rectangular-cut emerald in a bezel of hammered gold, an ancient technique Lalaounis has used to great acclaim in his collections. An open port on the underside of the emerald allows light to flow through the gemstone for enhanced radiance. Beads and dowel poles of the same hammered gold frame either end of the brooch, giving the emerald the appearance of a precious treasure hidden in an ancient scroll. The brooch fastens from the back with a long bar and hinged clasp that snaps securely closed for the wearer’s piece of mind. Plates on the interior of the brooch bear Ilias Lalaounis’ name, a maker’s mark, the number A21, a 750 [18k] gold purity stamp, and a Greece country-of-origin stamp. Much more than a mere accessory, this museum-quality piece is a gift that is destined to become a cherished heirloom!

This brooch weighs 15 grams. The piece measures 9/16\" (14.2mm) long and 1 3/4\" (44.0mm) wide.
