Construction material: Solid oak

Description: This post boxwould have belonged in a late Victorian early Edwardian residence / hotel or club. Guests and residents would post their letters or prepare their telegram which a member of the household staff would take out to be posted, (think Downton Abbey). There is asloping top with a brass plate with “Letters” engraved with a slot formail, a beveled glass plate with a brass surround for displaying collection/clearance dates/ times. The letters aresecured by a brass Bramah lock with original key and numbered brass fob, (#31), and brass split ring. There is also a beveled glass front viewing panel which allows the owner to see if there areletters that need posting without the need of opening the box. Being the delux model, there are alsotwo shelf\'s, one on the right and the other on the left hand side for storingA5 writing paper and C6 size envelopes. The basic model did not have these shelves nor did it have the telegram drawer. At the base is adrawer with a brass knob and a brass plate engraved with\"Telegrams\". Inside the drawer is a shelf for blank telegramsand a bevel for a pencil, (no biro\'s on those days)!

Condition: This letter boxis in fantastic condition with a lovely finish / patina. The oak has beautiful tiger stripes and is a lovely mellow honey colour. There are no smells of Tobacco/ pets. There are no cracks in the glass/ splits in the wood or brass. The hinges are solid and secure. Lock works as it should. The base has felt feet to protect surfaces from scratches. The telegram drawer is a bit stiff from lack of use but still opens/ closes fine.

Other: All items aredescribed to the best of my knowledge. This item is a genuine antique that hasbeen used and therefore has some wear and tear commensurate with being well over 100years old. It would make great addition to a collection or for use in acountry house / period hotel / members club or as a stage prop. These boxes are very rare to source and even rarer to find in this condition. Would look great being used as intended with personalised stationary and UK P&P is included in buy it now price. Postage is UK only with Worldwide postage by prior agreement only.
