Imperial Japanese Army Ija Ww2 Tank Helmet Tanker Pacific Antique Original Rare For Sale
The Japanese Army widely employed tanks in the Pacific theater, but due to the emphasis on producing aircraft and warships, the tanks they fielded in the bitter island fighting were mostly obsolete designs. Japanese tanks were too light, poorly protected, with insufficient firepower, and were at a severe disadvantage in tank to tank combat. Japanese tank crewmen, however, were imbued with tremendous fighting spirit, and fought to the last man against overwhelming odds. Japanese tankers were issued specially designed tank helmets to protect against the sharp corners inside the tank, NOT for protection from shot and shell. Few of these Japanese tank helmets were produced, and even fewer survive today, making them very rare and difficult to acquire. This Imperial Japanese Army IJA WW2 TANK HELMET is in good condition, with some soiling and fading around the exterior, a bluish stain at the lower left front, some spot staining at the back left crown, a small stain at the lower right crown, moderate tearing to the woven interior crown lining, some tearing at the left side of the woven interior lining, a small surface hole at the interior right chinstrap, moderate drying, some darkening, and some scuffing to the leather chinstraps, moderate drying, surface crazing, and surface chipping to the black leatherette forehead and neck bands, and with the overall age wear that the passage of over 65 years imparts (most pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage. It features a fully intact exterior covering, boasts the familiar metal screened ventilation grommet at the top of the crown, and sports the original, fully intact cotton lacing at the ears. The helmet boasts the original, intact brown leather chinstraps with metal closure buckles, sports a fully intact interior suspension, and most interestingly, carries the classic 5 pointed Imperial Japanese leather star sewn "front and center". It bears Imperial Japanese military stampings at the back of the interior suspension and at the interior crown, and is a fine example of an extremely rare, original Imperial Japanese Army IJA WW2 TANK HELMET.
