Important 18th Century Masonic Liverpool Pitcher Mason Friend Paul Revere Boston For Sale
Important 18th Century MASONIC Liverpool PITCHER Mason Friend PAUL REVERE Boston
Early American ROBERT NEWMAN Handed Down By Family
ESW presents, from a fine San Diego estate, this Important 18th Century MASONIC Liverpool PITCHER . This pitcher has been handed down through the family for over 200 years and it began as the personal pitcher of American Patriot and the sexton of the Old North Church of Boston, Robert Newman. Newman was fellow Mason a friend of Paul Revere. The initials on the front read RN.
Robert Newman (March 20, 1752 – May 26, 1804) was an American sexton at the Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts. He is considered a Patriot in the American Revolution for hanging lanterns in his church's steeple on April 18, 1775, part of a warning signal devised by Paul Revere during the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
This Liverpool Masonic pitcher is offered as found. It has some cracks, heavy crazing, a chip on the rim (all shown). The original pottery handle is missing and was replaced with a sterling silver handle that is custom fitted to the pitcher. Family folklore says the added silver handle is the work of Paul Revere but this is unsubstantiated. The handle is unmarked.
Stands 9 5/8 inches tall to the rim and 10 3/4 inches tall to the top of the handle.
