In House Circle 3 Magazine Table By Zuckerman/lawton Signed In Ex. Cond.:
In House Circle 3 Magazine Table by Mark Zuckerman and Monty Lawton featured in a 1996 Design Showcase in Excellent Condition...one of only three made by them specifically for the show.
Founded in 1993 in Los Angeles, CA, In House has from its inception produced world class products of the highest quality. The design team of Mark Zuckerman and Monty Lawton has won international design competitions and several of their pieces are in Museum collections, including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Bayer Plastics Museum in Frankfort, Germany, and the Pasadena Museum of California Art. All In House designs are made in the USA.The Circle 3 Magazine Table was originally designed in natural maple and for the design show in 1996 Zuckerman and Lawton teamed up with a formica laminate manufacturer to produce three Circle 3 Magazine tables. Reminiscent of Bauhaus designs in the 1930's the C3 Table is both sensuously sculptural and yet practical and functional. The table was introduced in 1994 and was soon placed in the Baltimore Museum of Art's permanent 20th Century Design Collection. For the 1996 Design Show Zuckerman and Lawton were inspired by the bold colors and graphic designs of the laminate manufacturer and pay homage to the great works of the Memphis Group an Italian design and architecture group started by Ettore Sottsass that designed Post Modern furniture, fabrics, ceramics and dominated the design scene of the 1980's. The C3 Table is currently produced in North Carolina by one of America's premier manufacturers, however, this table and the two others for the show were built by Zuckerman and Lawton themselves allowing for precise selection and application of the laminates. This table utilizes the laminates on both sides of each piece of the C3 Table and is unique in being the only one of the three that they hand painted, the black striping on the bottom curved base, to add additional graphic appeal. This is truly a piece for a collector of rare and unique art furniture!!
**On a personal note: I moved to Los Angeles in 1996 and remember driving past the In House furniture store on Beverly Blvd. at night and being completely struck by the look of the Circle 3 Magazine Tables they had displayed in the window. I could not stop thinking about the table for days and decided that the purchase of one was a must...which, anyone familiar with collecting can understand and appreciate that crazy feeling. Well, it was not long after that I made a special trip to In House and met Mark Zuckerman and Monty Lawton and sang praises of great design genius to them and soon we were in full design discussion. I was eager to purchase one of their natural maple tables and in my head had already paid for it and placed it in the car when I believe Monty told me to wait a second and both he and Mark went to the back room and produced the three tables from the Design Show of 1996. And yes, you guessed it, how do you purchase a table that you can't get out of your head when the holy grail of that same table is just sitting there back from a design showcase...and not to worry that it is three times the price of the original table you had already in your head purchased and driven back home. Well, like I said, I'm sure you understand that dilemma and also understand the apparent outcome. I still marvel at the design of the table and appreciate it a great deal, but feel that maybe it is time for another to appreciate it as well and since I am downsizing some collections for space I offer it today. I do feel that if I can't negotiate a fair price for the C3 Table then it may just have to stay with me for a bit longer...which is ok with me.
