Vintage 1940s Art Deco wallpaper border.

I’ve long had a period wallpaper fetish. Now that my wife and Ilive in a trendy modern penthouse flat with bare brick walls, I’ve finallydecided to let some of my prized collection go.

Borders this old are like the proverbial rocking horse stuff. I’dguess this beauty is from about 1947 or 1948 - if I’d to pin it down to withina year or two.

It’s the really old stuff which came in wider rolls. You cut thestrips freehand, which is why in some old houses you used to see borders with awavy line where they hadn’t been cut too well by the home decorator.

I’ve unrolled it and measured it for you.

The roll is 13ft long - give or take an inch. Obviously as thereare four rows, you get 4 x 13ft of border - meaning you can do your time warproom with a good 50ft to play with. It was tough to measure the roll to theexact half inch as I was trying not to damage it while I stopped it rolling up,and it’s quite fragile.

But no messing there’s a good 13ft of it.

It’s in fantastic condition except for one area of edge damageshown on a photo which is out of the “use area” anyway. There are one or twotiny edge nicks here and there and the odd crease or buckle line running across. Also the lastfew inches on the inside when it’s rolled up are dusty with age – see the lastphoto.

You won’t find stuff like this cropping up very often. If ever.
