Independent Chronicle (Boston) November 27, 1789“The people have suffered an immense sum by the deranged state of the national debt” is one front page article. Another, “MAN with the IRON MASK” “Further particulars respecting the MAN with the IRON MASK – From Memorandums found among the Papers of the Bastile” 3 shipping ads on front page with engravings of ships. Page two has a detailed letter “To the MONARCHY MEN” about the limited monarchy in the U.S. Page three “WEST-INDIA NEGROES” on a slave revolt in Martinique. Also has two anecdotes of President Washington, two ads for stolen horses with engravings and one ad with an engraving for a stray cow. If that weren’t enough, page 4, the back page, also has two runaway slave ads, two dollar reward for one, two coppers for the other. And how about this for a real estate investment, an ad for a farm with 116 acres two miles from Boston. The only flaw of note would be the weakness shown in the last picture.
