From the Cutch region of India. Renowned for their raised swirl leaf and vine pattern. The work taken from Persian architectural and decorative arts.
Wilkinson notes that Cutch silver of the period was "...by far the most sought after of all Indian silver work" (page 67). One reason for this popularity was that the Raos of Cutch had his silver displayed in every possible international exhibition. Beginning in 1851 with the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace. Wilkinson also reports that Cutch silver was usually 92 to 95% pure (page 68).
The service in unique ten panel globe form.

The teapot with fluted dome cover, topped with standing elephant. The beast with unusually long tusks.
Boldly cast coiled cobra handles. The hundreds of hand carved scales as real.

The smaller piece with rich gold interior.
As you know, there has been an explosive interest in Chinese silver the last year. Prices have appreciated 3-400% or more this year.
Indian colonial silver prices have only now begun to rise. We believe that very shortly Indian silver will experience this same torrential price appreciation.
