Inuit Print By Jamasie Teevee, Original 1976 Cape Dorset Print, #37 Of 50 For Sale
This is a great original Cape Dorset print by the Inuit artist Jamasie Teevee (1910 - 1985,) entitled "The Fish Weir." It is a stonecut print, and bears the Cape Dorset igloo stamp and embossed seal; it is signed, titled, and dated 1976 in pencil, and is print #37 of a total edition of 50. The print is in very good condition; the paper has no staining, foxing, or discoloration, and the image is crisp and clean. There are two straight, vertical folds at the left and right edges of the print (see detail photos) that are about 1.5" in from the edge(s) -- these are well outside the view area, and would be easily covered if the printwerematted/framed. There is also a small horizontal crease in the paper about 6" above the penciled title inscription, in the lower part of the "fish weir" area. Other than that, the print and paper are in very good condition; please see photos for detailed views of the folds on the left/right edges, etc.
As with many of Jamasie Teevee's prints, this image is a wonderful look at traditional Inuit culture, rendered with his characteristic focus on hunting and fishing practices within the Inuit camp. The lines and forms are small, precise, and detailed, and the perspective combines both aerial and elevation views in a flattened, narrative manner that seperates and delineates both the trapped fish on the left half of the print, and the grouping of fishermen, tent, and dogs on the right. The ink colorsinclude variegated shades of dark brown, and the fish are a lovely steel blue color.
The print will be shipped gently rolled within a tube, via either USPS or Fed-Ex. Canadian buyers PLEASE NOTE: Do not pay immediately; instead please email me with your postal code, and I will calculate the actual shipping, and then bill you via Paypal with the total for theprint plus actual shipping cost. Also please note that shipping to Canada will probably take a bit longer for delivery, due to travel time, customs, etc.
