Beautiful 1900's Islamic Mamluk Revival Very Heavy Pestle & Mortar Bronze Inlaid with Silver & Copper . Adorned with Arabic Calligraphic Silver Script within Roundels and Medallions .Interlaced geometricpatterns and detailedwithArabesques and Repetitive Z Patterns.. A Must for Collectors Of Cairoware ,Mamluk Revival ,Persian & Islamic Art in General. The technique of silver and copper inlay was revived in the late 1700's and 1800's in the Islamic world.The process is difficult and requires several stages of mastery.Indeed after the item has been cast or hammered into shape it is then covered in the calligraphy and patterns. After this difficult stage the brass/bronze is carved & engraved by hand.Finally thesilverand copper is hammered into the carved areas. This must be one of the most beautiful pestle & mortar's out there!! The Silver & copper inlay is all over both pieces.This piece is bronze as opposed to the normal brass thereby very very heavy for its size.
