This bronze medal dates to World War I and was awarded to Italian troops who had participated in the war between Italy and Austria, 1915-1918. The front of the medal has a bust of a helmeted Victor Emmanuel III, King of Italy during WWI. The Italian wording along the rim translates as WAR FOR THE UNITY OF ITALY 1915 - 1918. Immediately beneath the bust is the name of the manufacturer (M. Nolli Inc.?). The reverse side has a great image of Winged Liberty standing atop shields held aloft by triumphant Italian soldiers, with an Italian phrase along the rim indicating that this medal was cast in bronze from enemy weapons. This medal was very well-struck, with very high-relief (three-dimensional) design and distinct lettering. It measures approximately 32 mm (1-1/4\") in diameter plus the loop.

This item is in very good condition, with very light wear plus attractive toning and limited soiling. It is lighter in color and brighter than is evident in the images.
