Japanese Antique 120 Year Old Meiji Era Multi-color Imari Ceramic Charger Plate:
This is an aka imari (multicolored) ceramic dish (charger) made in the mid Meiji period. It dates to about 1890, and was used to serve a main dish which may have included sushi. It hasan elaboratemulti-color art work in the form of several iconic Japanese flowers, such as the paulownia blossom and the chrysanthemum.
The center has stylized chrysanthemums intertwined, symbol of wealth and good fortune and prosperity. The bottom has the makers name embossed within the greenware and glazed over (see last picture).
Having been in storage for over a century,it remains overall in excellent condition with no other chips, dings, or hairlines. It measures12" across by 1 1/2" tall (30.5 x 4 cm).
