Japanese Antique Bronze Silver Mirror Bamboo Pine Plum Blossom Crane Design For SaleAspecial Japanese bronze mirror from thelateMeijiperiod (c. 1890). It is made of bronze but has a nickel-silver plate to create a mirrored surface, and has an intricate relief scenic on the back including pine, bamboo, plum blossoms, cranes, and turtles. It was signed by the original artist Yamagishi Kaganokami (his title), Sadayoshi Fujiwara.
The cranes and turtles symbolize longevity, while the pine, bamboo and plum blossom together form the "three elements of happiness." Aside from its agedpatina and some slight tarnish, the mirror remains astonishingly clear for the time period in which it was made, and in very fine condition. 13 1/2"long by 9 1/2"wide (34 x 24 cm). The handle includes the original bamboo wrap.
