Jay Lynch 7"x9" Luxurious Acrylic Painting. Original Art. Underground Comix. :
There was a story in the news a few weeks back about what the government was paying artists for portraits of the President and the various members of Congress. The fact that some of these portraits cost the taxpayers in excess of $200,000 per came under harsh criticism. Finally, it was agreed among the powers that be that cost-cutting policies in this area would be immediately put into effect. While I am primarily known as a fine artist, I am, first and foremost, a businessman! So I look at this as an excellent financial opportunity for me. I would gladly do a few Presidential or Congressional portraits for as low as HALF of the going rate. But what was I to do? All of my sample paintings were of zombies, monsters, moronic looking characters, and similarly untoward looking things. Of course I couldn't show paintings of this nature to those who control the purse strings for Presidential and Congressional portraiture. Realizing that I had to make up some more staid examples of my proficiency at serious subject matter, I decided to make up some samples, the first of which is this provocative painting of that sensual South Beach siren, Donatella Versace. Now that this portrait is done, I have preserved a scan to show the big-wigs in D.C. So I can now safely sell the original here on . It is painted in acrylics on a 7" x 9" stretched canvas. Now just a few words I want to add here to bring all you kats and chicks who search under "titles and descriptions" to this page: In the 1960s and '70s during the Summer of Love hippie era, when Peter Max and Andy Warhol were big, I published BIJOU FUNNIES. BIJOU was one of the very first so-called "underground comic books". It contained inkwork by , among others--myself included, Robert Crumb, Art Spiegelman, Skip Williamson, Justin Green and Harvey Kurtzman. I also worked with Topps Chewing Gum on WACKY PACKAGES, GARBAGE PAIL KIDS, BAZOOKA JOE, and a whole passel of other projects. Now that the old underground comix are finally recognized as the most important art movement of the 20th century, I have decided to devote my autumn years to celebrating the old underground comix sensibilities in paintings like this one.
