1952 John F. Kennedy Letter here we offer for sale an August 25, 1952 Typed Letter that's Signed by future
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy who was then an elected member of the Massachusetts' 11th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives and this letter was written to a supporter from Massachusetts who had supported JFK's Candidacy for the U.S. Senate by signing his Nomination Papers. this letter measures 6 1/4" by 9” and is on Watermarked "TA-NON-KA No. 1 Bond" Paper with Kennedy's "Congress of the United
States / House of Representatives" stationary header at the top identifying JFK in
print as being the Representative of the 11th Massachusetts District and
as a member of the "Education and Labor" District of
Columbia Committee in Congress. this letter came from the estate of the man it was written to back in 1952, so we can indeed guarantee it is from the date written, and is NOT a recent reproduction. what we cannot guarantee is if it was indeed signed in person by JFK but the signature looks right to us, and since it is made out to the supporter ("Raymond") it seems to be one-of-a-kind.
our research tells us that this pre-dates Kennedy's use of an Autopen or a Secretary to sign his name. the style / penmanship of the signature also matches genuine others signed by JFK during this time period (his signature changed a good deal over time, having had to sign so many documents in time). that said, while we are experienced antiques and ephemera dealers, we are not autograph experts, so this is being sold "as-is" so ask questions before you offer if there is something particular about this letter you'd like to know. we have posted multiple images so that you can judge yourself. looking at the document under a microscope, there are no usual tell-tale signs of it being printed and not actually signed - the signature is in blue ink and looks real to us, with slight variation in thickness and darkness of the ink in places. ~ Content of The Letter ~ August 25, 1952
“Dear Raymond:
May I thank you for signing my
nomination papers. That there are friends like you across Massachusetts, who favor my candidacy for the United States Senate, gives me a great lift as my campaign gets underway. In case you didn't know it already, our Boston headquarters, 44 Kilby Street, is in full operation. Please feel free to drop in there any day or evening. Sincerely, (signed) John Kennedy) / John F. Kennedy”
~ Condition ~
this letter is in nice condition with mostly clean and crisp
paper with just a little age toning and creasing and edgewear. the printing is dark and bold and the signature of JFK is bold and attractive.
~ Terms ~ as stated before, we are not autograph dealers, but we know this letter to indeed be from 1952 and to have come from the estate of the person it was sent to, a supporter of JFK's Senatorial Campaign. we have shown may detailed views of the letter, and done our best to accurately describe it, but we have no way of guaranteeing or authenticate the signature, so that said, it is being sold "as-found" and "as-is" with no guarantee of authenticity and with no returns or refunds accepted. when in Providence, Rhode Island visit our shop What Cheer? on Thayer Street.
