JUPITER TALISMAN JOSEPH SMITH LUCKY POCKET MEDAL MORMON UTAH INT.:
$15.99

  • Joseph Smith Jupiter talisman medallion. A medallion, or lucky pocket piece which Joseph carried his adult life and was found in his pocket after he was martyred.
  • This is a replica of the original.
  • Measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
  • The original medal that Joseph owned is in a private collection in Utah.
  • The diagnostics of this medal were taken from the original. The original had a small hole punched in it so it could be used as a necklace or watchfob. On it are Hebrew words and symbols.
  • Included in the sale is an information sheet that explains some of the history and authentication of this piece, as well as some of the Hebrew words and markings.
  • While the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr. never urged his followers to use magical devices, there\'s plenty of evidence that he himself was an avid user of seer stones, divining rods, and talismans. In fact, Joseph\'s widow Emma reported that throughout his entire life Joeseph always carried a Jupiter Talisman with him, and it was in his pocket when he was assassinated in 1844.
  • Years after Smith was killed, the Jupiter Talisman was bought by Mormon artifact collector Wilford C. Wood from Major offeramon\'s (Emma\'s second husband) son Charlie. It was still many years later before anyone figured out what the Jupiter Talisman actually was. (For years it was merely known as a \"lucky pocket piece\" or a \"Masonic jewel.\") Now, however, a considerable amount of information has been unearthed about the Jupiter Talisman and how it was used.
  • It is a lucky pocket piece, and it has Masonic connections, but it\'s much more than that, too. The medal and how it is used was explained in detail in a book published in 1801 called \"The Magus, or Celestial Intelligencer; Being A Complete System of Occult Philosophy,\" by Francis Barrett. In fact, as the controversial Mormon scholar D. Michael Quinn has pointed out, a number of things in Barrett\'s book were found in other Smith (including Hyrum), relics, proving that the Smiths had a copy of the book and actively used it. (But, as already pointed out, while Smith used the magic and occult object, he didn\'t teach his followers to use these non-logical items, he reserved their use and function for his own use.)
  • In this sale you will be offerding on an exact copy of the silver Jupiter Talisman owned by the Prophet Joseph Smith Jr.
